Broad Roots Review: Richard Grainger and Chris Parkinson

Two Northern Folk Legends

After releasing his first album, Richard left North East based band, The Teesside Fettlers to pursue a solo career and has never looked back. He has produced 14 albums in the intervening 35 years and has written many songs, some considered to be classics and part of the folk tradition.

Richard has written plays, for stage and radio, made several TV appearances, and completed a recording project with Sir David Attenborough.

Chris Parkinson has been playing music since he was 5 years old and is a virtuoso of the accordion and melodeon. Like Richard, he has entertained audiences around the world, as a member of The House Band and with John Kirkpatrick in Sultans of Squeeze', as well as accompanying Martin Carthy, Norma Waterson, Ralph Mactell, amongst many others......

Richard and Chris first recorded together in 1994 on the album, 'Thunderwood',and more recently, on the album ‘Hard Road to Prospect Hill’.

They are a folk force to be reckoned with and, since their reunion, have been delighting audiences at Folk Clubs and Festivals around the UK, Europe and New Zealand
Ben Campbell of the Folk on the Moor Folk in Plymouth wrote of Richard: "A wonderful singer and songwriter whose pride in his rich northern heritage flows through his work like the waters of that famous river of song".
